Apple has just sent out invitations for a media event scheduled for next Tuesday, October 23. The event will be held at the California Theatre in San Jose, California and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Pacific / 1:00 PM Eastern. The tagline on the invitation reads "We've got a little more to show you."

Apple is widely expected to introduce its "iPad mini" at the iBooks-focused event, with the company reportedly planning for production of 10 million units of the device this quarter.

Oh god...I hope Gene doesn't want one of these. He's gone through so many iPads (gets bored sells them and then buys another):screwy:. I kinda don't see the point of the iPad mini though. It doesn't seem that "mini" to me but I guess it could be the picture.

This should be ideal for men's purse. I actually don't own an iPad - i go around with an 8" Sony Vaio

I think that was pointless on their part cuz for $329 someone who wants an iPad could just put $70 more n get a full iPad. It should have been at most $250 to compete with kindle fire or nook pricing but then someone could jus get an iPod touch. I love apple but I think the size of the iPad is great as is.

I agree with it being a disappointment. The main thing that should've happened, in my opinion, didn't. The price point is not great. This is basically an iPad 2 with the new port and smaller screen. It should've either been cheaper or had the specs of the new iPad. I call this a flop.

I'll gladly take a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire over this, just seems like a lame effort to catch up to google and amazon with their small tablets

But the brainwashed sheep Apple fans will still buy it.

I'll agree, as a user of apple stuff, that they may have priced themselves in a corner here, but, having used Nexus and Kindle and Samsung devices, they aren't the same.

given they are still making the iPad 2 at the same resolution, it's a bit odd, but it's probably something that will eventually take its place. With a lower price point, they will attract those that couldn't/wouldn't make the stretch up to the higher priced models. If this device had a retina display at that price point, I'd have ordered one already.
