I am sorry if this is in wrong place. I want to change the color of my door panel plastic, orange, just part on the 13 Si 4dr. Going for Camaro look inside. Thank you my father (TT) gets a lot of usable information from here. Appreciate your help and his. JR

I would like to paint that spot on all four doors. (factory orange) It seems to be textured plastic, plus I cant see how that piece would come off door panel (?). Would hate to get orange paint on panel. Would it be like painting the engine cover on the Camaro? That Duplicolor high heat paint leaves quite the odor :( JR

THERE WAS A MISTAKE...THE PIECE IS A CHROME LIKE PLASTIC PIECE THAT IS SAME COLOR AS DOOR HANDLE-TT

I can understand that. Does the part in question even come out of door panel? or part of it? I can picture in my mind how it will look but how to make it happen? (no plastic chrome piece on rear doors so he'll only want front two)IMG-20130920-00800.jpg

I would imagine once you have the entire panel off you will be able to figure out how to disassemble all of the pieces. Without breaking clips would be a different story.

Ok. Once the trim is off (however that is), how do I paint that piece? What do I use? Would it be same as painting the engine cover?

Rust•Oleum makes paint specifically for painting plastic.

I really think you should take Webby's advice on this and do it in vinyl. Not only will it hold up very well, it will be reversible in the future. Perhaps you will trade the car, sell it, or just plain change your mind. Vinyl work is not that hard to do. Really.

Getting the door apart will probably be harder than getting the vinyl on nicely. Also since it's all going to be custom work you can just buy one big piece or sheet which is inexpensive compared to pre cut shapes.

In all honesty, any non-factory painted part I've seen in a car has not had a good look to it. You can almost always tell its been painted, and not in a good way. The vinyl will have a nice shine and fit that I think will make people have to take a second look.

(Also don't plasti dip anything on the inside that you touch often.)

Thanks for the recommend webby. The fabric is just as easy as vinyl. If not a little more forgiving cause it doesn't stick. Adds a lot of pop to the flat interior. IMO don't paint the inside it looks cheap every time I see it and you'll be disappointed in the end. Vinyl work inside is actually really easy. Sometimes you can even do it without taking things apart. I did the steering wheel and emblem attached in a few minutes. I'm actually doing my fiancés Mini Cooper in a bit with some royal purple. 3M vinyl FTW

I don't see any reason you can't do it without taking the panel off either.........
I'd suggest putting the media on and smoothed down all around the edge(plastic fingernail cuticle pusher works well for getting the edge tucked tighter) ...... For cutting off the extra waste/edge .... Slide an Expired credit card under where you'll be trimming(so as not to cut surrounding door panel).
