Mother Of All Whore Threads Non-VIP Edition v.1

I'm 34 :hyper:

After coming home from college ...I had a hard time finding a job that paid anything, so I lived with my parents for almost a solid decade before leaving. In that time, I spent most of my free hours inside, way too invested in video games and comics because ...you know, escapism. I don't know if frugal is the right word (I did buy some very stupid stuff), but I saved in spite of myself, even though I wasn't exactly optimistic about ever getting out of my parents house after a while -- it just became routine.
Same here.....sort of. I spent a year applying to jobs left and right and got nothing. Obviously I was at my parents for that time and eventually landed a mall job at a little furniture shop that paid something like $24k a year......peanuts. I was there for 2 years? and was a assistant manager at the end of the 2 year and was still making $26k a year and still living at the parents house, lol. Through that job I got my "professional job" at Mearsk Shipping line doing accounting stuff. I almost doubled my pay and thought I needed to reward myself. I bought my 2006 Civic Si brand spanking new. The enabled me to "broaden my horizon" and meet all the internet friends I made through 8thcivic.com (I "met" the webster also, :giggle:). So in a way, I was hiding in my parents house for quite some time and then life finally "started". I paid off the car in 18 months and then bought my first house. Market crashed the next year :pat:

Long story short.....being a hermit and living at your parents sometimes can be good if you work it "right" and while you feel like life is passing you by, you eventually "catch up". Which you are obviously doing by making solo trips to Japan and getting into your hobbies.

i swear to god, if my kids are living with me past 19 im moving to a different country.
I hear there are homes available to the south . . .

My oldest is 20, almost 21, and still at home (but, they're also a full time college student and are anticipated to graduate in the next 2yrs); so, we'll see how that goes post-college.

YOU GOT TO MEET WEBBY?! UNFAIR

I appreciate you sharing this @Nomar06 -- this is encouraging! Even though you're still waaaaaaay cooler

Really, I appreciate everyone's input -- I have no idea where any of this will end up, but I feel less alone now.

I guess I need to price a board :brock:

I was thinking @Honda-Fan was not going to get it since I thought he was a "baby" in his twenties. But 34?!?!?! color me shocked!

Yes, I am older than most people think even offline! :spaz:

Am I the azswole?

My step cousin is having a Dominican Republic wedding in February. Offering all inclusive flight and stay through their travel agent. It's 1 week. Our total comes to about $9000cnd with tax plus a layover in Toronto because we're coming from Vancouver. We would see a lot of family we haven't seen in 2 years. I told my sister that we would probably go. She would only go if we did. Non refundable deposit of $250 each person due end of this month.

Told everyone that we decided not to go yesterday and found out my sister put the deposit down already without making sure we were going.

I can go to Mexico for less than $6k for 2 weeks. Not all inclusive but food and other stuff is cheap. Still under 9k.

Am I the ******* for not going and letting them know a week before the deadline?

I mean it is unfortunate that your sister put her deposit in, but she also should have probably called to ask if you'd put your deposit in

Is she obligated to go to the Dominican Republic now?

Destination weddings are such a weird concept, its up there with having your wedding on New Year’s Eve

Yes.she doesn't want to lose her deposit.

Agreed. Went to my step brothers wedding in Dominican years ago. That marriage lasted a couple years. But it's an opportunity for families that dont live close together to be able to go. If we could go for cheaper if be there.

Oh she's cooked... Okay, I have a better understanding now.

I don't think you're the azswole, but I can see how she might be freaking out about all this.
