Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we're looking at the black plastic trim on the far right of the pic below. It's a hard plastic.

From looking at the pic , then looking at my cars thingy, and from what Nix said about applying that stuff........ I think it was whatever you used (hardware) to apply the paste/solution/etc. ..... looks like the applicator was too rough basically........ so heating with sliding something smooth over it ..... but even then you're working with semi melting plastic .................... If all else fails that piece can be replaced and not cost too much(guessing).

Given the replacement cost I would go that route. I've not really had to deal with an issue like this so I don't have a real good solution other than Valugard ETR kit, which would likely cost more then the replacement part.

Thank you all for helping me with this you all are awesome and very helpful the thing I used was a used old t shirt at a closer look to the shirt I noticed that it had been used before to clean up glue. It's my fault of not inspecting the towel first but we all have to learn from our mistakes. But this could be an opportunity to put together a do it yourself thread. Just incase someone else would like to see the process of changing this part out. Oh and webby you are correct with thinking of the part that is it. Again thank you guys.

It's not scratched at this point, the plastic is deformed.

Ok I understand you problem.....you have to apply some rubbing compound on the scratches and rub it.. Then Mix cerium oxide with water to make a paste and put it on the scratches. Use a buffing machine and buff them out. then use some polish to make them shiny and your are done.. Good luck....
