Trade-in Value

Don't know where else to park this one, so I decided to put it here in the garage.

Looking for someplace where I can find an approximate trade-in value on '12 Civic EX-L that we bought in April. We are facing a change in circumstances, and one of our options is to trade-in the Civic on something more appropriate. However, I would like to know what I can expect before I go to a dealer, so that I can know if they are giving me a fair value or not.

Yes, I know that I would get more if I sell it myself. An option, but I need this other information as well.

The last time I checked KBB.com, they had scarce info for any 2012 models.

I know that some of you here have contacts with dealers, or work for them. The car is in excellent condition, with roughly 4,800 miles.

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm seeing 17,500-18,500 dealer trade in (based on the top condition, and next down). I've never traded in a car during the 1st year, so I'm not sure which they'd use. I've never seen them use the top tier on anything over a yr old regardless of condition.

Shoot! Forgot all about THEM! Thanks webby!

Looks like I'll be driving this Civic for awhile yet then. Not a problem. Just different strategy now.

a dealership may be a totally different story though. You never know unless you ask them. If you're getting into another car at the dealership,...there could be even more room to alter pricing. All depends on what you need to happen.

If your semi-serious, it's worth a discussion with a dealer.

I almost bought a new S2000, while I was waiting for an oil change on my Si - one time at the dealership. They offered me a very tempting trade-in value, then pulled the S2K out of the showroom for me to take it out and flog it for a half hour.

In the end, I decided to keep my Si, but I was right on the edge of pulling the trigger.

Hmmm, worth checking out. Thanks guys! The Carmax option is a no-go though. Not one in Michigan.

I am glad I listened to you! I decided to go visit our local dealer, and we may have a deal to finalize in the morning. If they stand up to the numbers that were discussed earlier today, it may work.

Update. Over the last week, as my wife was in the process of turning in her Venza (which was on lease), we tested a number of Toyotas. She decided on a Camry XLE, and I decided, after some considerable debate (between a Prius V and a Rav4), on a '12 Rav4. Perhaps because they were getting two deals for the price of one, they were much more willing to work with us in a trade of the Civic. We also traded in our old Olds Intrigue, and we were able to complete a deal of Friday.

There are a lot of things I miss about the Civic, but the one thing I don't miss is the low seat height. I was actually a bit sad to see it go, but I am happy with the new car, and my wife is happy with it too. Yes, that is VERY important in our house!!! :)

We still have the Civic EX that our son is driving, so I guess that allows me to stick around here, eh??? ;)
