MFactory LSD

Hi all,

I have an 2013 LX Manual and was wondering what it would take to put an LSD into the transmission and whether it is worth it or not.
I did find the MFactory LSD but it seems like it is for the 8th gen civics.
Anyone with an R18 engine interested in putting an LSD into their cars?

If mfactory offers a diff for the 8th gem r18 there is about a 90% chance it will fit in the 9th gen as well as I don't believe they did much to the transmission between generations. I would reach out to them as they would more than likely be able to give you a solid answer.

I have an mfactory lsd in my 97 civic and so far it has been fantastic.

It would be pretty cool to have an LSD in the R18.
Seems like a big hassle tho to rip out the transmission and everything.

Keep us updated if you find anything. There has been a handful of times I would have found an lsd helpful... on dirt and while its raining. Apart from that I learned controlling the throttle inputs. On another note I have looked into getting Hondata Traction Control as another option but havent gone through with flashpro yet.

It would truly be something to consider.
Here's a reddit thread about why cars don't come with LSD's: https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/3kdbfq/serious_question_why_dont_all_cars_have_limited/

The last thread about using left foot braking is quite interesting -
You can even simulate an LSD with any car - simply disable any stability control, and learn how to left foot brake. You will wear through brake pads often if you do this, but holding a small amount of brakes as you accelerate will prevent any wheel spin from open diff and transfer power equally across the wheels.

Yea, Mfactory and Cusco both make LSD's that fit the 06-11 cars. The Cusco is hard to find information on and MFactory at least respond to emails! No one to my knowledge has tried to install one on a 2012+ car but, it theoretically should fit without issue. PITA job to do if it doesn't line up. IF you end up turbo/sc it would definitely be worth having. NA, I've hardly ever spun a wheel with the low power of these cars.

Hondata traction control does not work with the R18, nor does any of their features of boost by gear or gear control. They do have different part numbers for the differentials themselves but looks to be like it would be a direct swap. Everything else for the differential besides actual differential remains the same part numbers don't see any reason why it wouldn't be a direct swap

@420Coupe - Which LSD did you end up getting? Did it work with the stock trans or did you have a lot of work done to make it fit? Asking for a friend obviously.....

Helical LSD, nope was just a straight swap I also swapped out FD at the time. However the gear whine is so bad right now LOL I'm still amazed she's held together. Definitely stronger than a glass K trans.

Also someone may or may not be getting a dogbox made [emoji6][emoji389][emoji389][emoji389]

@Nix - you're probably right about the under powered part. It's true I only get wheel spin because I'm still on the all-seasons and 15" steelies from when I bought the car. I've had heavy 17" reps before and the car fails to overpower the traction :(. It just wheel hops all over the place.

If you're launching hard and you get wheel hop you need to get stiffer poly bushings in the front lower control arm. I don't know that an LSD would improve that. With wheel hop all the suspension and mounting bushings are flexing and getting wound up like rubber bands. When they compress enough they unwind and cause the wheel to lose traction and then momentarily gain it again. Thats the cause of wheel hop. The big LCA bushings on the front are compliance bushings and are meant to be soft and make the ride nice. Energy suspension makes a kit that presses in. The poly bushings can be used in place of a true spherical bearing traction ball.

I have a set. The ride is not pleasant unless the road is smooth but I've not and an issue with wheel hop/slip at all. Better tires can help a ton and is usually cheaper than installing an LSD or the hassle of putting in new LCA bushings. This set from energy should fit the 2012+ front LCAs

LSD will improve 60' in the 1/4.

Edit: should also just beast out on the bushings and go full solid [emoji6] idk if Full Race is still making them but I have those on the car.

Hey @420Coupe - Is this the LSD you got? Also, if you know, is there any major difference between the AT and MT? Would this fit either?

http://jdm.teammfactory.com/helical-lsd_199

I believe so I'd have to look back in emails to find exact part number I ordered but it's their only helical LSD for the R16/18 is how they had it labeled prior. For LSD purposes, don't quote me on this as I don't have extensive knowledge of the AT, but I believe that portion is the same I'll look up part numbers now. Which I believe should be the same for AT to MT

Scratch that two way diff pieces. Orders of parts even go in differently.

Doesn't let me post pics. But they're completely diff PM me and I'll text you the two diff diagrams
