Introduction:

The “garage door seal front lip” has become pretty popular on the internet. For $15-20 dollars you can purchase everything you need from The Home Depot or Lowes to install a front lip that protects the car by keeping rocks from bouncing up, but also makes the car look lower, and sportier. Seems pretty win-win to me, although I recognize there will always be haters who insist everything must be OEM or from some performance company. I for one have that hot-rodder instinct and my feeling was cheap, functional, and looks cool? Who cares where you buy it! Enter EZ Lip, who advertises a higher quality version of the DIY option for about $30 bucks with free shipping on their website www.ezlip.com

Below were my thoughts on the product installation and performance, the quality, and the looks.

Installation and Performance:

While 9th Gen owners don’t have a lot of options, I would argue that this product is much more flexible, easier to install, and easier to replace. It would be very difficult to destroy this product, unlike a hard plastic lip that would suffer the same problems as a bumper. The day or two after I installed the EZ Lip I took it out to some Texas back roads. Having seen the damage some of my friends got that day on their bumpers underside I was even more happy with the product. The functionality alone should be a selling point for lots.

Quality:

EZ Lip makes the claim that their product is not the same as garage door seals you can purchase at Home Depot or Lowes, also claims that the double sides tape is high quality and intended for automotive use. I found both claims to be 100% true. I bought a roll of garage door sealer from both places just for comparison and the EZ Lip material was thicker, more flexible, and had a “finish” on it that seemed to make it slick to the touch. In other words, it’s probably the same intended use but very high end. The double sided tape that was included and pre-attached was also above and beyond regular or even super 3M tape. I was impressed with how hard it sticks.

Looks:
Obviously if you are interested in this product, you like the look of a bottom lip. I’ve posted a picture, and that should speak for itself.

Complaints:

I can’t speak a completely glowing review, out of fairness to people reading the review and to EZ Lip who is undoubtedly always trying to improve their product. The main issue I had? The tape is so thick that it stays visible even when you’ve pressed it down pretty hard. Of course this all about the angle at which you photograph the car, and the car you own. This might be an issue specific to 9th Gen Honda Civics, specifically because of the design of our bumper. I’m not sure what EZ Lip could do to fix this, but I intend to mask off the area and use a little bit of either black plasti-dip or a sharpie. I will add an update on these attempts later once I figure out if plasti-dip would be safe for use on the foam. Either fix might seem a little ghetto, but given the benefits and quality of the product I’d say this easy fix is well worth it and should be impossible to tell when done.

Conclusion:

I really think this is a great product. I love the way it looks, and the performance has been impressive. It’s like having mud flaps for your front. For the price it’s hard to beat, and is definitely an improvement over the products available at Lowes or Home Depot
