Any of you on iRacing?

I cant ever make up my mind if I like it or not. I rather do hot laps than race folks.

For those who do not know what iRacing is check out www.iracing.com
I don't see any negatives to racing time, it's safer than getting on a track with someone that doesn't know what they are doing, or get's tunnel vision when challenged.

The only argument by ppl that race others, is they feel they can be pushed more to their limits if there is some visual challenge around them(ie; another car/s).

Don't forget ...MONEY..... some ppl can afford to repair their cars.

Sorry, I hadn't looked at the Link yet. thought you were talking about real cars, instead of video games..... Guess it depends on how the game works when it comes to time or other cars..... some games are set up where cars can be very aggressive with you, more so than what some will meet on a real track. I haven't play this one, but do like the games. I had won all the cars on the 1st Grand T game.

Of course, the only draw back is the lack of dynamic forces interacting with the driver. One can't duplicate the experience of banging your helmet off the top of your door-window frame while turning hard into a corner.

What car do you run? I am at my best in the Skip Barber.

I like the mx-5 class - easy to just pick up and go... sometimes a lot of punters...sometimes incredible racing

Nice Setup! I have a cockpit, but only use a single monitor. I re-subbed a month ago to try the KIA out.. but that thing swaps ends to easy for me.

I am huge iRacing fan. I do a ton of private test runs but i never go out in the world :) I am absolutely in love with the game! I have a crazy life and work schedule so actually having fixed time to race anybody is a luxury i do not have but either wise i am not that bad at it, few secs under top times for most tracks.

Thing is top time or not it is really a racing simulator and I am a better driver for it and a happier one as well. I would never be able to do that in real life due to lack of money, i know just a sim but it is pretty darn close.

I forgot to mention the only thing in my opinion lacking is the physical motion sensation and the nice smell of fuel either wise technically it is pretty much spot on. It is by no means a game, doing a proper lap takes a lot of skill practice and real world racing technique.

I chose between a set of pilot super sport on light rims and a setup to run iRacing flawlessly and chose the setup :) I do not play any games except GT5 sometimes so that PC is only used for iRacing and work when working from home.

@Dragos
@the insider I Think I am going to get back on iRacing this week. I tried to get into Forza4/with Controller because I can drive a 12 Civic Si on street trim, but jeeze I cannot drive with a controller, and I am so used to the iRacing environment that Forza just feels arcadish, but that's a given. The biggest kicker was driving with a controller.. I fail at that.

me too - i'm too old and my fine motors skills are shot:eekdancesmiley: kinda itchin to try the new "classic" version of the codemasters F1 game... but the "current cars" with the use of kers and drs don't much appeal to me.

I can imagine! I have F1 2010 for XBOX, and me trying to drive with a controller on it is really bad. With a good setup from someone who can build a setup I can drive the iRacing F1 car fairly decent. I will most likely stick with the Skip Barber on iRacing. I can drive that car the best out of everything on there, and the races always fill up + they are every hour.

Would like to check out the Classic version of the new F1 game, but its a waste due to my bad controller driving and disregard for trying to learn to drive controller style.

Controller is not very fun. It will do if no other choice but night and day difference to even a cheapo wheel.

Lately I am honing my times on Suzuka with the Indy racer or the Williams. It is very cool the more I drive the more I learn how to control the tail over steering before it happens. Took me a while to be able to take some corners at tire limit with the Williams. The more i play iRacing the less I enjoy the rest even GT. I love how the brake bites more at higher speeds, almost foot down with no issues and then the wheels start locking once the car is under 100 kmh, depends on the car, this is something that either Forza or GT5 do not properly reproduce.

Saw some initial demo videos for the Occulus Rift on iracing and I can hardly wait for it :)
