So I once had an 8th gen Civic Si Dyno Blue Pearl Sedan. I absolutely loved the car, met my wife because of it, made babies in it (not really), enjoyed beating the piss out of it during autoxes and track days. Went off to war and my mom (wasn't married yet) had power of attorney. She was being a great mom and went to trade in my car for something different because the dealership I bought the car from said they would buy the car for more than it's worth (when 2012s weren't selling).

Fast forward to today. I'm rocking a 2015 STI, the car is amazing, built well by Subaru standards; but, the car mentioned above is now for sale. Only one person has owned it since it left my hands. Car looks like it was decently taken care of, paint is in okay condition, window sills need to be replaced, tires are needed, and thats about it. Dealer isn't budging much on the price because it's "The general managers daughters boyfriends friend" and they "took care of it" which I rebuttled with "I really don't give a bleep." I mean cleaning the car and making it presentable are things dealers should do before they sell any car and this guy was trying to say they couldn't budge on price because they put gas in the car...

What would you guys do? Would you ditch an STI for a car that you have a ton of great memories in? It only has 20k miles on it since I last drove it 3+ years ago.

Yea I was literally just bsing on autotrader/craigslist looking for wrecked 9th gens for my other project when I came across it. Looked up the VIN and was like holy crap that's my car. The STI really doesn't have many more gadgets, Subaru is archaic compared to other new cars. You get a seat, wheel, engine, trans, 1980s radio, and windows lol.

The only saving grace for me in this situation is that buying my old car back I would be saving a ton of money each month on payments. I'm buying a house so those things are always a plus. The bad thing is this Infiniti dealership the car is at has questionable practices at best. They won't budge on their $700 dealer fee or price on the car; but, wiling to give me more than I owe on STI.

Honestly ive been through the same thing twice, Sold a car to a friend and winded up purchasing it back. I had a chance to do it a 3rd time when I sold my 08 Mugen Si but I never did buy it back. I enjoyed the car and loved taking it to the track, getting questions etc.. At the end of the day the memories are still there, pictures and so forth.

I would secure the home first, Play games with the dealer until they stop being stupid and then purchase the vehicle but only if its on the terms you want it to be. Ive always found that unless I truly get what I want out of a deal then its never satisfying in the end.

My 2Cents. IN the end, good luck with what ever you decide.

Great advice. On the plus side I found out that my old boss from a Honda dealer I worked at 10 years ago is the GM at the sister Infiniti dealer down the road from me. He's going to see if he can get the car transferred to his store and see if we can make the deal work.

But ClearCutSi you have me second guessing now haha.

I know most people would say oh the power of the STI and this and that. Honestly ive owned much faster cars than my SI and way more expensive and nicer. When you have an attachment to a car it lasts for ever. The one car I would love to go back to and would give up my current cars is my 91 accord SE. I thought I was going to keep that for ever and some Bwitch cut me off and totaled it less than 1 mile from home.

If you feel its the right thing and its on your terms, you will never loose

Be careful you don't let nostalgia get the best of you. You may find out that you actually liked your subby better.

I would honestly keep the subby

I built a Trans Am with my pops while in college. We went through everything. Built the motor, had the 6-speed all done up, hit every last item in the suspension for HPDEs, we painted the car, modded the interior (it was trashed when we bought it). First kid came along and had to move somewhere where I couldn't take more than two cars. So I sold the Trans Am to some kid that is a friend of a friend. He had cash so it was even better. I paid off my student loans with it. I had the chance to buy it back, the kid being a teenager he total futtbucked every meticulous detail I put into that car (super anal retentive with my builds). He riced out a perfect car, I drove it and you could tell he didn't take care of it. Plus he was trying to get $3k more than what I sold it to him for. I hated it because it was the best looking and driving car my dad and I ever built. But I walked away happy because I knew it just wasn't meant to be.

I coud keep the Scooby and buy the Si outright but my wife might castrate me not only because we are trying to buy a house but we have a 9th gen shell and a 94 accord chump car sitting in the garage as well lol. And once I get a donor car for the Si shell the garage will be full. Anyone want to buy a shell?

In reality I should buy a truck and a trailer but I have friends that have those and I let them drive the racecar for using their truck/trailer to get to the track.

But this one almost feels right.

Kept the STI. As much as I wanted my old car back the dealerships were to slimey and playing their bullshit games. I went to look it over a second time at the sister dealership it was late and I needed to pick up my kids, I told them I would be back in the morning to finalize everything, here's a $1000 deposit to hold the vehicle. The salesmen (plural) both told me if I didn't buy it right then and there they wouldn't sell it to me because they had "3 people driving from out of state to pick it up at 10am." You play stupid games you win stupid prizes. I told them they lost a sale, a future customer (i go through cars all the time, you never know), and would be making sure their GM would hear about it. Oh and by the way the car is still sitting there as I drove by today.

Was at the Dodge dealership yesterday getting the company van serviced and was out looking at the chargers. Salesman came out and started his pitch. I told him I was there for the company vehicle so he asked what I drove personally. I told him a Civic Si and then started ignoring him just a little, so he would get the hint to go away. He did, but he said "let me know if you wanna trade that Honda in for something more better" (yes he actually said more better). I just told him "I already did that when I traded my charger in on the Honda." he scoffed and walked away.
