2013 rotor/brake help

Any suggestions on rotor/brakes for the 13 civic lx sedan?

I've OEM is best way to go. And I don't doubt that but is there anything else out there?

I was thinking of R1 Concepts but it appears that they only have 2012 civic ex sedan rotor size which based off Honda has a diameter of 10.3 while the 2013 civic lx sedan has diameter of 11.1. I did a little bit of research like as if I were going to buy for each of the cars and it appears that oreilly, autozone, pep boys, etc. and they have identical replacement suggestions. I have seen like 1 or 2 that have diameter discrepancies.

Is it recommended that I try my luck with the R1 rotors or go stock?

I have contacted r1 and see if they knew but they didn't so that's when I contacted Honda for diameter size.

Question: Why are you planning on changing your brakes very soon?

Really? When I went in for an oil change, dealer recommended that I change the brakes because I had like moderate wear. That's why I was wondering. They didn't urge me to buy them but said they recommend me to buy them or install them myself....

I only ever changed the pads once on my 7th. 9.5 years and 125k miles. 95% city miles. I actually had the second set and some rotors to change them when I traded it in. Rotors didn't look nor feel as if they really needed done though. I just gave them to the dealer.

Damn. That's pretty good. Idk what was their suggestion for then. Well thank you for the feedback. What about rotors? Do you suggest I change those or no? I do plan on getting a wheel set in jan. Should I wait until I do that to replace rotors?

edit--- how do I know if they are warped?

Your rotors should not be bad after 18k miles. Does your steering wheel shake when you're coming to a stop?

Was it the pads or rotors that need to be replaced? Because rotors can last for a good 60k-100k miles. Pads last at around 35k-50k depending on the driving.

I only ever changed the pads once on my 7th. 9.5 years and 125k miles. 95% city miles.

Or even 125k miles! :D

Rotors are fine unless they are warped. You'll know when they are warped if you feel a vibration on your steering wheel when you are going to a stop, like @webby mentioned.

So pad changes until about 30k miles then? Or possibly more. And rotors should be changed after about 2-3 pad changes.

Take a wheel off, and you can visually inspect how much pad material is left on them. Take a pic if you're unsure, and someone can comment on how much is left on the pads. As squiggy said, he's hit like 125k miles on a two sets of pads. I was like 85k miles. It's all going to depends on how much stop/go you deal with, and how hard you are on them. They may last a really short time if you're using the car on a track. All depends.

Sounds like an expensive habit, nothing wrong with it if they need it......... but I'd want to develop a few different habits, like checking the rotors(mic and feel them for grooves) to see if they need changing, check the pads yourself for wear.

As far as how quickly they wear out is all up to how hard they're being applied under "normal" driving conditions. If someone likes to stand on their brakes all the time, so be it, it's just going to cost more in the long run. Maybe you could look into getting your rear end equipped with rotors as well.

What do you mean?

LX comes with drums, right? Maybe have them retrofitted for disc?
I would think these cars could be fitted with disc, since they are the same setup minus the rear brake disc.
From the way I understand it, it is about $2000 difference between the 4 wheel disc and the 2 wheel disc models(of course there's other things added to the upgraded model other than brakes, and it's the added $2000 that ppl choose the lx instead of the ex). I don't know if & how much it would cost to swap out the rear, but you could ask your dealer.
