Guys, I'm thinking of upgrading my stock speakers. Have a front and back set of Focal speakers. Will also add a 5 Channel Amp to the setup. Can i run the stock sub to the amp? Don't wanna add a box in the trunk. Need the space. Lastly, do you recommend changing the head unit as well? I was hoping to keep the stock HU as well. I'm a noob when it comes to these things. Just want to listen to clean and clear tunes. Thanks

I think others have but complained about bass. I know at least a few did shallow depth 8" diameter subs in place of the stock sub and said it was significantly better. Most have done boxes though.
Yeah. I would go with the box too but I don't wanna lose my trunk space. Lol.. Do you know what 8" sub fits the rear deck?

he said he bought this one - but it says unavailable currently. He said a low profile sub that wasn't taller than 4".

I know someone else had some mdf rings or whatever like 3/4" added to the rear deck to get a little more clearance room in their trunk. I think they just measured what space they had under the speaker grill on the rear deck & were able to get a little thicker sub in that way as well.

Just saw this... Should for since the height is only 4.5". What do you think?

There are options out there to build a sub over the wheel well. Check out JL Audio's stealth box. Mine is a basic box that tucks in the corner. I can take it out whenever I need more room by simply unplugging the speaker wire. It was much less expensive than the stealth.

I was running into a similar problem...wanted more bass but not the trunk rattling obnoxious kind. I went with a powered hideaway sub that fits under my driver's seat. (Sound Ordnance B-8PTD Powered Hideaway Subwoofer) It was around a $150 from Crutchfield and it was exactly what I was looking for. It adds really good depth and bass to the sound and there is an adjustment knob that mounts easily inside the coin tray to the left of the steering wheel.
