I love salt water tanks. I have a small one now.

Has anyone seen the t.v. show Tanked on Animal Planet? They do some really cool/custom tanks. Great show.

i Don't know whether to be jealous or not, I have a 180 gal tank w/80 gal sump and a 120 gal tank w/60 gal sump have a group of Oscars in the big tank and a group of Frontosa Burundi in the 120. Always wanted to go SW but just haven't been able to justify the extreme cost.
Love to see some pics of this beast when it is all done

hehe Extreme cost reduced thanks to living in FL have it all around me naturally. LOL those are huge sumps for your tanks, i am more just worried about a skimmer and if its actually needed of i can get away with the filtration system i'm designing.

ahhh he says it'll be 1900 but hold 1800

8.35 * 1,800 = 15,030

not to mention for like..every gallon of water you have...you have to have that many pounds of live rock
What's "LIVE" rock ?

its costing me about 3.5$ a gallon on salt  im about to just go to the ocean and bring home 50gallon bags home of salt water to save sheesh
Would there be a difference between collecting sw off the coast if the area is near a fresh water stream dump? I'm just wondering if their is a sw fish that lives in a heavier sw mix than another... would it effect the fish's survival ?

420, i take it youve been up to Tamarac to Big Als, beautiful place and love going there. Had a huge craze on fish tanks a couple years back and was a poster on MonsterFishKeepers.
Currently just have a 75 cichlid tank, those 5k gallon tanks up there are beast

def a question for the aquarium people in here. I've never had anything besides goldfish
Sounds like they went to bed.... I just like salt water aquariums(never had one, but I had friends that did)...... I don't know if it would make any diff', just thought I'd see if the question has ever been broached, or what ever? I'm retired and curious

The main thing you'd want to worry about is the overall salinity of the water. As long as you're at .26 specific gravity, it should be OK. You can also run a gamut of tests on the water for things like PH, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, etc..

Bingo the salinity of the ocean varies naturally from one location to the next so its ok to see your tank go up and down a couple tenths, although near a fresh water dump i assume it wil be more brackish conditions and probably some where around a .18 SG
