my baby (2012 2dr si) got in an accident. i didn't have insurance (I know... I know...). My driver side door got smashed and won't open. The window smashed to pieces, and my rearview was taken out. The bottom of the door frame is gone too. No mechanical damage, luckily.

I got a quote from a body shop of $8k or more.

I don't have that kind of money but still need it fixed.

if anyone has any suggestions on finding a good honda mechanic (particularly in Oahu) I'd appreciate your help...

any great places to order genuine parts at a minimal cost would be awesome too.

I've heard about

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/
http://www.hondapartsunlimited.com/
http://www.hondapartswholesaledirect.com/
http://www.handa.com/
http://www.bernardiparts.com/

Does anyone have a favorite, or is one better than another?

thanks in advance

collegehillshonda is a vendor here who specializes in oem parts. They give discounts to users here -

pricing on their site is also well below msrp on parts.

May want to chime in there to see if someone knows a mechanic who could help. Shipping parts to hawaii may not be as cost effective as buying the items from a local shop in the long run. You'd have to see what type of shipping quotes you'd get.

It may be a long shot, but another option would be to call around to see if any junk yards have some wrecked 9th gens you could get some parts from. It may have to be painted to match your car color, but at least the items would be local.

How do u get away with out insurance. Isn't it necessary to drive a car legally on the road? That's why you get insurance for these types if situations.

You can have insurance which covers you in case of theft, fire, vandalism, or hitting a pedestrian. But collision is an extra add-on above the minimum requirements to drive around legally.

Ask me how I know :(

Yeah but here in canada if you buy a new car you can't get just basic coverage only full coverage.

:yeahthat:

Sounds like you need to find a junked car with an undamaged driver's door.

UPDATE:

Thanks everyone for your help... Found a door from AH Parts in Rancho Cordova, CA. (Tried here, but no 9th Gen doors were available.)

Cost me just about a million bucks to get it shipped but at least I got the door. It's gray too so I'll need to get it painted. The guys over there were helpful and nice though. I'd recommend them and use them again for sure.

Found out my A-pillar is bent so much that my door wouldn't seal so I'm shopping around for A-pillars locally. AH gave me a quote for $250 for the part but that's without shipping. I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope that I can find it locally instead.

The body work is not gonna be fun. I also have to remove and repaint the fender, plus touch up paint on the outer panel. I can't wait to get her back on the road. What good is a 6 spd in a garage? :(

Sorry to hear about your crash... Trust me I know how it feels!

As for the insurance thing, the state I live in is a no-fault state. If I filed a claim, my already high insurance premium would skyrocket on the payout for this almost brand new car. I'd rather take it under my own hands and deal with it out of pocket so I won't have to continue paying for the premium raise. Shhh don't tell my insurance!

Can't wait to get her back on the road.

Been there so I know how it feels. I had a new z24 in 1999 and i parked it because my insurance lapsed. A drunk driver hit it and totaled it. I feel your pain.

The good thing is this is something you will never do again. In fact, now insurance is a big factor for me when picking out a new car.

Good luck with your repairs. I really feel for you. :(
