Well guys I went ahead and ordered a JL 10 in a sealed box coupled with an Alpine MRP 500 amp. When installing does the existing amped sub line work or does a full range need to be tapped? My main concern is that this amp is not compatible with the Alpine RUX BASS KNOB, but I bought this amp because Crutchfield has a great deal on them. Will the factory sub woofer control be able to control the the output?

Thanks Guys!

My amp has high level speaker inputs so an LOC is not needed but that thread helped out. A fellow member used the existing amped lines and connected it to the high level input on his amp. Thanks! @webby

@bad fishy did you have bass control from factory HU after using the existing amped sub line? And was the bass clean and clear?

I tapped into the sub wires under the back panel in the trunk for my high level inputs on my amp. I still have control of the bass level through my HU, but just set it and left it. My amp has an external control I mounted in my dummy plate to easily adjust my bass level daily. If I didn't have the external knob I could control it though the HU, but the knob is quicker and easier than getting into the settings each time.

I've enjoyed my setup every day since the sub broke in. Took about a week for my sub to come alive, so don't freak out if your not pounding right away. It's just the right anoint of bass with a 10 for me. Leaps and bounds better than factory crap sub.

Great that's exactly what I needed to hear! My original plan was to use the dummy plate but the alpine amp I'm using isn't compatible with the alpine knob. So I was hoping I would be able to control the bass if needed to. Thanks!
Is ur 10 sealed? If so how much power?

Bad fishy is right. As long as you tap into the stock sub signals you will retain the factory sub settings. You could use the rears for a full range signal but you don't have to. I personally found the rears to have a weak signal causing me to have to turn my gain up too much.

I was hoping to not have to tap the full range. Thanks for the info!

Plenty of output. The sound transfers just fine.
Okay thanks! A shop tried to sell me a slot port JL audio 10 because it was in a trunk but I didn't like the looseness of the port so I went with the same sub but with a sealed enclosure. You removed the factory sub correct? I'm guessing it would help with output in the cabin.

Nope, just left it in. I've thought about removing it for more sound transfer, but I've honestly been fine with it as is and just haven't gotten around to it. May never wind up removing it...

I personally unplugged my factory sub and sometimes rear speakers as I found them firing into the trunk caused a bit of cancellation

It was to me. Seemed like ot was quieter than it should be and certain frequencies were almost inaudible
