Sound deadening advice/ product reviews

I just finished installing my JL 10w3 in a custom fiberglass box with 500W JL amp and am noticing some rattling and vibrations in the rear quarter where the sub is installed as well as coming from the center of the diffuser on the trunk.

My question is: what product would work best to deaden the trunk (thinking of the whole inside of trunk and eventually rear deck once I upgrade rear speakers and amp). I know all abou dynamat as thus is pretty much the standard and I've read that dynamat is a guaranteed good option but $$$. There are other options that are more cost effective but haven't had too much feedback on them. I'm looking for something that won't break the bank and is a good choice in terms of quality. What do you guys recommend?
 
These cars don't have that good of sound proofing from the factory.

You going to need to dynamat the truck area, rear deck and probably to quarter panels as well.
 
Those were what I was going to do anyways. I was moreso looking for product recommendations of stuff I could do myself. Ended up buying 80mil GTMAT. So I'll have to review it once I install it and test it out

I've done a fair amount of research and it looks like the "home depot" solution is 50% success. Either it smells bad or doesn't stick on verticle applications or its smells for a bit then is fine. But seeing that Pauly and I can live in both extremes of temperature I would rather deal with something that will stick and stay stuck than have to deal with melting roofing in my trunk. And there are two main adhesives I have come across in sound deadening. Tar/ asphalt products or butyl products. I know GTMat has butyl products but will have to see how their 80mil Ultra mat stands up in terms of stick, smell and functionality. I may do a DIY for this product. But will do a review of it at the very least because my money will have been spent for some good rather than none at all
 
Alright... I finally had some time to go for a drive with back seats down then up as a comparison. There was no notable difference in road noise or sound with the back seats down after installing the GTMAT. That being said, it is :unicorn:ing awesome because the GT Mat eliminated most if not all noise from the trunk, wheel wells and rear deck. I was hoping for some improvement from no deadener but I am blown away by the effectiveness of the product!!!! The "budget" product no less!!! Before it was almost deafening having the rear seats down while transporting stuff at highway speeds and I had to turn the music up to counter the noise. Now I can leave it at the same volume I use while driving in the city. This is a MUST DO upgrade if you're doing any upgrade to your sound system. Hell, it's a must do upgrade for anyone period! In my opinion at least. Makes the drive so much more comfortable! Plus it makes your music sound louder and cleaner!

I would also recommend doing the doors as there is more noticeable noise coming from them since deadening the trunk. The only area you can't fix (which is where most road noise comes from now) is the windows. A+ product. Especially considering the price. Lengthy and somewhat tedious install time, but once you know what to do you're good to go. Approx 10-12 hour install for whole trunk, wheel wells, spare tire pit, trunk lid and rear deck. Including disassembling trim and replacing it post install.
 
Also, I forgot to mention: less noise/ rattling from the sub OUTSIDE the car post install.

And there was a slight smell from the adhesive while installing but have not smelled anything at all once I finished. That being said, the weather has been cool to mild the past little bit so the true test will be once the weather gets warmer/hotter to see if it starts smelling even though the smell was quite faint during install. Also it will be interesting to see if the adhesion is affected at all by hot/ cold weather, tho it stuck and didn't want to come off once using a heat gun to warm the adhesive up and use the roller to stick it to the body.
 
I just looked at the GT Mat site and I am wondering how much did you get? They have a starter kit which has 50 sq. ft. of material and it isn't too expensive. I am looking to upgrade the sound system in the spring but I figure that I could knock out the sound deadening now. The deadening should help with the stock system's sound too.
 
I got 50 Sq ft. It won't help the sound too much in the back from stock as the speakers and sub are rather low powered. It WILL help significantly with road noise!
 
That will work just fine for me. I hate the stock sound system and I am sure that the deadening will help the after market system too.
