Even got the card buckled up, too!

Is it worth upgrading to am5?
I can save a ton of money if I reuse my
Cpu and cooler and ram but I still want to upgrade my GPU so in the end Ill probably save a couple hundred.

Is it for gaming or what’s the machine being used for? If you got am5 you get to bump up to ddr5 ram, pcie 5.0, etc, but clearly higher prices.

My son games but I think all he plays is some kind of monkey balloon game. I'd probably be ok keeping most of my stuff.

Funny you asked that.

My buddy keeps telling me that I need to upgrade to AM5 but I just want to upgrade my 5600x to a 5700x3d or 5800x3d (both discontinued so I need to find someone that is selling it). But my buddy says just go AM5. I don't want to do all that lol

I don't think it's worth the upgrade. AM4 still is fine.

ive done some quick pcpartpicker comparing am5 build to staying am4 re using my cpu, cooler and ram. seems like i can do am5 for about $400 more.

I don’t think the AM5 upgrade would be worth it if you have an AM4 system. It’s still great. For gaming, the video card would be the limiting piece.

Unless you’re doing engineering calcs, editing, or compiling code where you need more CPU, AM4 is perfectly fine. Get something like a 5800X like Booty said, that’s more than capable with the 8 cores/16 threads. Just make sure you have adequate RAM, and hard drive space.

I’m still running my 2020/2021 PC with 5800X on a 3080 Ti graphics card, 32 GB ram and have yet to find something that really challenges it (albeit I’m not gaming with full ray tracing).

Ive got a 5600x. i dont think upgrading to 5800x is worth the cost. the biggest thing i need is a better gpu. upgrading the 6600xt would help a lot. i can get a used 3080 for around $500 or a new 9060xt for under $500.

5800x3d is the one I'm trying to find. It has more cache. Supposed to be much better than the regular 5800x.

Yeah I'd just upgrade the GPU.
How much RAM did you say you had? 32GB?

Think I figured out a compromise.

I can get something like the lian li a3 case. It's micro ATX supports ATX PSU. About 26L. Much smaller than my current atx case and I can reuse everything I already except the MB.
So new MB and GPU. Stay am4.

There is a used 4060ti founders used local to me for $575. Probably go down to $500. Or buy a new 9060xt or splurge and get a 9070xt.

waited 2 weeks to get internet hooked up in the new house. i couldnt find where the fiber was ran inside the house so i figured it had to be done. turns out theres a panel behind the piano that houses the fiber and the modem. so i could have done it all myself.
