Police to Auction $1.6m Ferrari Enzo Left to Rot in Dubai Dust
Abandoned almost 20 months ago, this weather-worn Enzo will be the prize draw of a supercar police sale.
In what is set to become the most expensive police sale in history, Dubai police will auction off 23 luxury vehicles on Wednesday.A $1.6 million Ferrari Enzo, one of only 399 ever built, will be included in the supercar police sale after it was left in a car park 20 months ago.The British owner is believed to have abandoned the rare supercar after receiving one too many parking tickets.
This is not unusual in a country where debt is a crime. Many expats that rack up debt flee to avoid doing jail time, leaving behind their prized rides as well as property.Previous rare supercars left to rot in the hot sun include Jaguar XJ220 and NSX. After a car is abandoned for six months, Dubai police has the right to auction it off.A total of 129 cars will be auctioned including three other Ferraris, and seven top-of-the-range Porsches, Corvettes, Mercedes, BMWs, Range Rovers and Dodges. Fines on the cars average around DH99,000 or $27,000.
In good condition an Enzo can fetch up to $1.85m. The supercar has a 6.0-liter V12 engine capable of 660hp and a top speed of 217mph. It can reach 0-60mph in just 3.4 seconds and Enzos, first built in 2002, are so rare every time one bites the dust the others increase in value.However this particular model has spent almost two years in the Dubai sun where 115 degrees F is not an unusual thermometer reading and thus is likely to be severely damaged.
