A work in progress - 'Solitude' 2010/2011
I started work on this image back in 2010. It is 8ft across & 5ft high. In these photos I am only working in graphite. Later I will go in with ink and acrylic.

Yeah, looks like a time killer to me.

I used to do fairly detailed watercolors for people. Many of them took hundreds of hours, and in the end people would not pay enough to make it worthwhile. So I stopped doing them. I still have a few of them I did for myself.

Many do not understand what it took to create an artwork - when they are looking at it.

Here's a photo of a painting I did for someone - just prior to them picking it up. The pic doesn't do justice to the level of detail, but it is 24" x 32", and took me over 300 hours.

I'll dig around for others, and if you want I can take a pic or two of some in the house.

BTW, I didn't mean to thread jack. That graphite work is so tedious and time-consuming, and I'm recognizing that very few appreciate the amount of effort that goes into something like that.

I haven't painted in years, however, I'm getting ready to paint some simple stuff in our nursery. I like drawing with graphite, in college I drew a pic of my wife.

Here's a small watercolor I did of Marla with Woody our old golden retriever that took about 40 hours. It is about 8" x 10"

Here's a closeup of Woody. His mouth was really that goofy looking.
