The lasers are only used for high beams, and in this application they reportedly double the range that the light can reach, taking it up to 600 meters or 1970 feet! That equates to over a third of a mile.
Another advantage is the reduced strain caused to oncoming cars, as the light is now focused and does not spread as much as in the case of a conventional setup.
