Hey guys, so I was washing my car when my d*uche of a neighbor comes out and complains that I am getting water on "his" fence. He points at the fence to which I reply what about it. Then he say's it'll cost him money for some reason I do not know and I ask him how. He then points to this tear in the wall which he assumes I did. I told him that wasnt me. Then he says no water do you understand. I said no I dont understand to which he replied F U. I gave him a F U back and then he went inside.

My question is, since its a fence that borders each property, wouldn't that side of "his" fence actually be considered my fence? He wants me to stop washing cars and inadvertently splashing water on the fence which I am not going to stop to do.

The white part of the fence is what he's crying about. I think it's my side of the fence.
Do any of you guys have any input into this? Can I call it my side to which I can splash water on?

So the fence borders the property - did he put it up/maintains/paints it? I think the police would laugh if they were called out over water being splashed on a metal fence...but I'd be more worried about someone doing damage to my car. You have anything you can monitor your vehicle with now that you guys have "exchanged words"?

I'm not sure he put it up. It's been there since we moved here 4 years ago. He has painted it before and actually came into my driveway to paint our side. I should have told him to get out. I have a fenced driveway and I am a very light sleeper so if he comes in I will wake up and hear the gate rattling.

Are there any local laws against washing cars at home, or some home owners rules? If not wash away just keep your cool the next time he says something, sounds like he's pozzy wipped and needs to take it out on some one.

No car washing rules that I know of lol. I usually keep my composure but when I flat out get disrespected when I have not disrespected first, then I will return the insult

"Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me". Never show any emotion, then if something should happen to him in the future, they won't be coming to you, never forget cameras are everywhere.

Not like I would hit him or something. I'm a Marine poolee waiting to go to bootcamp and wont risk anything to jeopardize that. He's just a complete tool. Always double parks in this space of the curb that fits 2 cars but he decides to fit his right in the middle. He's just a grumpy old man waiting for his time to meet his maker.

Glad to hear you're going in the Marines, the service is where I learned to keep my emotions to myself. Hope you learn to control yours, and good luck in the Marines, really. Best thing that ever happened to me, always back up your bud's.

Obviously, he has no legal recourse against anyone splashing water on his fence. As webby said, your bigger worry is that he's got some kind of mental issues, and might do something crazy to you or your car.

If you truly want to know what the legal limits of that fence are, contact the local government. They should be able to tell you what your rights are with respect to the fence.

I would personally avoid any conflict with him if possible.

A splash of water doesn't hurt anyone. I don't see why your neighbor is making it a huge deal. I'm guessing that's a driveway where your car is?
