Last year, Hennessey Performance took their highly-modified Ford GT out on an empty piece of tarmac, at the Texas Mile, and they managed to push the custom twin-turbo supercar all the way up to 257.7 mph or 412.3 km/h. This year, they've tried again, and with several improvements to the car, the speed achieved was higher, as the GT crossed the mile marker at 267.6 mph (428.1 km/h), rivaling the Bugatti Veyron SS for sheer speed.

The run from last year set the record for the Texas Mile, and this year's performance builds on that. If this incremental improvement of the car is to continue, we suspect they're aiming for 300 mph (480 km/h) for years to come. However, due to extreme air resistance, the car will need considerably more power than it has today, in order to even approach that number.

Hennessey Performance is really trying to set itself apart in the increasingly crowded world of modified cars, and with the acceleration figures posted by their Lotus-based Venom GT, as well as this ridiculous Ford GT and a bunch of other less well-known cars.

Wow 430 is an impressive speed. Is it me or the gear box is looking really clunky, seems like the driver is really pushing a bit to get it in gear.
I would love to drive one clunky gears or not ;)
