After doing a TON of research on the IX, and looking at a good amount of them I have some obvious tips:
- Obviously try and find one that is as stock as possible. Even if claimed "stock" look at the motor, heat shields, etc... look for missing bolts, non factory clamps
- Find one with service records, this is probably more important than the above
- Look closely at the interior, this is probably the cheapest part of the car. The steering wheels tend to de-thread, and the plastic clips break very easily if haphazardly installing gauges, stereos, etc...

Ive got a lot more, and will add to this. These cars are awesome and the 9 is probably the best of them. You are going to be bummed out at how many destroyed, poorly maintained, and beat cars there are out there. DO NOT SETTLE, you may looks for months, but remember a higher milage STOCK evo is always better than a lower mileage abused one. They are out there.....

Spent MONTHS trying to find a clean Evo IX. ..failed.
Couldn't imagine spending so much on a car, with no warranty, that was probably beaten on.

ya but its gonna be a toy...my buddy who caused all of this, haha, has a SE evo 9 with minor bolt ons, fp black, and e85 and now he wants to build the motor but thats gonna be about 7-8k lol so he just wants to sell his and buy a built one.

oh and when he bought his he automatically dumped 4k cause of the clutch and other bs that shouldnt of happened lol so i know about the whole buying an expensive car without warranty deal...and it was beaten on slightly.......we went to evolution dynamics in lewisville, TX for a crawfish boil!!!! we ended up meeting the previous owner lololol, before: it had cams, a bigger turbo, coilovers, sick RFP1's and he turned it back to stock to sell it (did a shitty job besides the cams) and i got to see all this happen so im gonna be extra careful

luckily when i do own one of these bad bish's i have a shop to take it to.

and the search is still on lol

oh and is that the cheat in your avatar???? takes me back to the strongbad days hahahah
