When I bought my SI last September, less than 300 total miles and I started getting 'Check Oil Level' warning coming on. I took it back to dealership I purchased the Civic from couple hours away, where they told me, if I make tight corner or go up a hill or possibly a speed bump, light could come on. However, since it's a new car and they top of fluids, not to worry.
It bothered me, so I checked oil level myself and turned out it was out of oil! I took it to local Honda dealership, where they filled up fluid under warranty. Issue happened twice before they advised a consumption test. Recently, about 2K miles after scheduled 'B1' maintenance, light started coming on again. This time I dropped the car off at local dealership and told them I don't want it back until they figure out what's up as driving a car low on oil is a big no-no. A single gold automotive rule, if you will, 'don't drive car without oil'.
Apparently, there's a service bulletin about pistons being too small for cylinder wall. Considering that piston has been referred to as a the 'heart' of the engine, this seems like a major flaw. Anywho, I got a call yesterday stating the third piston was still not fitting correctly and they'll need the car until Friday evening to get parts in again to repair the engine.
I have mixed feelings as it is a new car and while everything is under warranty, one doesn't expect major repair involving engine when it comes to Honda. It's why I purchased Honda over BMW/MB/VW. There are other things, passenger airbag warning continues when I have passenger regardless of their size and if you have carbon window tinting it will interfere with radio reception. Neither appears to have a solution.
Just wanted to drop this note and let everyone aware that dealership informed me that there is a service bulletin and if your Honda Civic seems to go through oil awfully quickly, it's definitely worth having dealership take a look.
Far as my situation, I'm considering trading both my 08 Hybrid and the 12 Si for a single German car.
