just saw an article -

Exciting news for Corvette fans: Motor Trend reports that “sources inside GM” have confirmed that the next generation C7 Corvette will feature a 440-horsepower, 5.5-liter small-block V8 engine.

“It's likely that this new engine will be the first application of GM's next-gen small block family, and we'd expect it to sport direct injection, E85 capability and a new combustion system design,” writes Autoblog. “One thing not to expect, though: overhead cams. You can bank on the fact that The General will stick to its tried-and-true overhead valve design, which serves to lower manufacturing costs and allows for comparatively small overall engine dimensions.”

The 2010 Chevrolet Corvette is currently equipped with a 430-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine. “While the power increase is just 10 ponies above the current V8, fuel economy should be improved significantly and we expect that through the use of lighter weight materials and possibly some exciting new transmission changes, acceleration will no doubt be improved upon as well,” writes *********. Still, enthusiasts will note that the Corvette’s displacement has been reduced.

According to egmCarTech, “GM is investing a total of $893 million to make cleaner and more efficient V8s that will power the next-generation of its vehicles that require such power.”

so even with the reduction in size, they're estimating 10 additional hp
