These are the install pics from putting in my ProClip center mount that ProclipUSA.com just released, it's not the cheapest way to mount something in your vehicle but definitely the cleanest, sure beats a suction cup mount and I am very pleased with the location they chose for the 9th Gen Civic. This is the forth different vehicle I have bought one of these for, would never use anything else. depending on what you're using it for - if you're using a turn by turn nav, it can speak the directions

No it's not that low at all, easy to glance down and grab a peak if you have to.

the one i have is adjustable so I can make it as tight or loose as I want. It's the iPhone with case model, if you get a non case holder it's not adjustable but is coated with a "fuzzy" substance that holds the phone snug but makes it easy to slide out.

Don't have a smart phone that you can buy a GPS app for? I wouldn't spend the money on a stand alone anymore, the smartphone apps are as good if not better, I use Navigon on the iPhone.

you're at the mercy of your phone having service. There are a number of states I've been on road trips without any cell service.
